Lincoln Public Schools Career Academy

The Oven Cellar Bar

Overview

The Career Academy is a joint venture between Lincoln Public Schools (LPS) and Southeast Community College (SCC), designed to provide high school students with real-world experience across 16 different career pathways. The Culinary Program includes two large instructional classrooms for hands-on learning, a teaching classroom for demonstrations, and essential support areas such as walk-ins, dry storage, and warewashing.

Each of the two identical instructional classrooms is designed to facilitate both individual practice and group learning. Students are positioned at workstations where they can actively practice techniques while maintaining a clear view of the cookline, where instructors lead demonstrations. To enhance efficiency, supplies, ingredients, and appliances are stored on low shelves along one side of the classroom, providing easy access. Additionally, a four-compartment sink is included for immediate warewashing, ensuring a smooth workflow and a clean learning environment.

This thoughtfully designed culinary space allows students to develop practical skills in a realistic, professional kitchen setting, preparing them for careers in the food service industry.
