Council Bluffs Public Schools
Overview
Foodlines designed four kitchen projects for the Council Bluffs School District, enhancing functionality and efficiency across multiple schools.
At Kirn and Wilson Middle Schools, kitchen renovations focused on adding a third serving line to reduce student congestion during lunch periods, along with larger walk-in coolers/freezers and expanded warewashing areas. These projects required integrating new equipment with existing infrastructure, including precisely matching new serving line equipment to 20-year-old units at Kirn. Additionally, all serving equipment was designed to be mobile to accommodate the cafeteria layout.
During renovations, Kirn and Wilson students attended a temporary school housed in a former Target store. Foodlines designed a minimal yet functional kitchen, equipping it with code-required hand, prep, and scullery sinks, reach-in refrigeration, and hot holding carts. At the same time, meals were transported from another location.
For the Council Bluffs Early Learning Center, serving children ages 6 weeks to 4 years, Foodlines designed a 1,200 SF kitchen featuring a single-appliance cookline, prep and plating areas, dry storage, and warewashing facilities. Meals are prepared in bulk and distributed to individual classrooms, ensuring efficient meal service for young students.
